100 Days of Holiday Inspiration-Black Friday-47 Days & Counting

We are officially 2 weeks to Thanksgiving and 2 weeks until the start of that crazy Christmas shopping marathon.  Have you got your list ready yet?

I have been hawking down the Black Friday websites since the end of October and finally today the big one came out: Wal-Mart.  Have you seen the ad yet?  Click here for all the Black Friday Ads.

My girlfriend called me this morning squealing: It's here! It's here!  Now I can finally decide what can be purchased now and what has to wait until the big shopping day.

I've already been through all the other stores and made my list, but I have to wait on good ol' Wally World's ad before I make my final decisions.  They are going to have Monster High dolls for $10 starting at 8pm on Thanksgiving.  Whoo hoo!  Those bad boys are usually $20 and up.  These may not have all those extra little trinkets, who knows, but I don't care.  My dear daughter has circled them in every toy ad so far and it's the main thing she wants.  Jackpot.

Do you get as excited as I do for Black Friday or do you avoid it like the plague?  For me it all depends on what the kids are asking for.  Two years ago my mom and I started at midnight on Black Friday at Wal-Mart, went to eat at Jack in the Box, sat in the car outside of Sears and took a nap preparing for the 4am sales, then hit K-mart at 5 and back over to Wal-Mart for one last run.  All-nighter.  Honestly, it was a lot of fun.  Everywhere that I go on Black Friday I find NICE, FRIENDLY shoppers.  Now I'm not one to get in line for that big screen TV or a video game console either.

Last year I did all my Black Friday shopping online and it was great.  But the catch was all these deals that were to start at midnight were not available online until about 3am...but there was nothing to say that.  I repeatedly hit refresh for 3 hours before the items I was looking for became available, but it was worth it.  And free shipping on all of it.  All from the warmth of my couch!

I'm a little over excited for some reason this year, I just can't wait to get this holiday started!!  Tell me about your Black Friday adventures and how you plan to spend it this year!

Until next time...

100 Days of Holiday Inspiration-Christmas Music-48 Days & Counting

I can't stand it this year.  I just don't want to wait any longer to hear my Christmas music!!  Every year I try so hard to wait until the day after Thanksgiving to start playing my music.  Mainly because Thanksgiving gets over looked so much, I hate to feel like I am skipping over it.  For some reason though this year I just can't wait any longer!

All my normal radio stations for Christmas music have usually started up by now, but all 3 are still playing the day to day music.  Seriously!?  You're killing me dj's.

So I got "smart" and grabbed my smart phone and went to the app store.  If you have any kind of smart phone or tablet, you can do the same.  I just typed in Christmas Music into the search bar and found a great app, simply called "Christmas Radio".  Once I downloaded and opened it, up popped a list of hundreds of stations.  Yay me! (Doing my happy dance.)

Maybe it's all the depressing posts and arguments people are scribbling all over facebook about the election.  Maybe it's the kid in me desperately trying to escape.  But I NEED my Christmas music.  I swear I could listen to it all year long!

I have held out on the decorations though.  They are stacked in boxes here in my office staring me down on a daily basis, but I will refrain until the day after Thanksgiving to put them up.  Besides, remember my bucket list?  I want that fish tank outta my living room first!!

Also, if you want to see what Christmas movies and shows will be on, check out ABC Family and they have the lists there!  No calendar printout yet, but a detailed list of dates and times.  I started going through it and marking the ones we don't want to miss.

I'm so ready to get this holiday started!!  Oh! I also have my shopping list ALMOST completed.  Not purchased, but a list at least.  Yay me! (in my best London Tipton voice.)

So what about you?  Are you feeling the Christmas fever yet?  Started shopping?  Desperately searching for music like me?  I'd love to hear from you and how you are getting ready for this glorious holiday!

Until next time...

"Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness." Psalm 30:4
Today I am thankful for my "little" sister, who may be younger, but is definitely taller than me!  There may be 10 years between us but we are still so close and can talk about anything.  I am thankful that she has a great husband and a beautiful daughter that was born on my son's birthday!  I love you Kelly!

100 Days of Holiday Inspiration-DIY Angel Ornament-49 Days & Counting

I saw a cute little idea of making an angel out of a small wood bead and a Hershey kiss, and a brainstorm started.  I started sorting through all my Christmas decor until I found exactly what I was looking for: bell garland.

Let's get started, shall we?

Supplies:

1" round wood bead
Dollar Tree Bell Garland
Hot Glue Gun
Pipe Cleaners
Scissors

Clip a bell off of the garland strip.

Take the wood bead and work it on to the tip of the bell.

Make sure you get the bead with the larger hole.

Next, take a pipe cleaner and make a loop on one end, about 1 1/2" in size.

Take the other side and make a matching loop.  Wrap the loose in around the middle a couple of times-but leave some extra.

Take another pipe cleaner and shape a smaller loop on one end, then bend it 90 degrees.

Take and wrap this piece around the wings.  Also notice I bent the wings in some (like a heart) to give it more shape.

Wrap a few times.

Now, position and hot glue in place.

See how I took the extra pipe cleaner and made a hook?  I can hang it straight on the tree.

These would be even cuter with silver or gold sparkly garland.

Please let me know if you try these and how yours turn out!

"That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works." Psalm 26:7

Today I am thankful for my right to vote.  I am also thankful this election is over and we can move on to the happy times of the holidays upon us!

Until next time...
G'nite!

100 Days of Holidays-Glitter Vase-50 Days & Counting

We are halfway through our countdown!  Can you believe we only have 50 days left until Christmas??  Let's get things back rolling with the next silly simple DIY craft.

How many of you have flower vases just sitting in wait, under a cabinet or in a closet?  How about any mason jars?  Have I ever told you I'm a hoarder?  I've saved every glass jar this year from jelly to pickles this year.  For this project you can use any glass container you have on hand.

Supplies:

Glass container/vase of your choice
DST (Double Sided Tape) or Glue
Glitter
Pan/Plate to catch excess glitter

Decide on a pattern and start applying the DST.

Next step is take off the back side of the paper backing on the DST and start adding glitter.

Make sure you coat all of the exposed glue/DST thoroughly.

Take a paint brush and smooth out the glitter, filling in the gaps.  Turn and shake it to make sure all the loose glitter falls off.

Now fill it with ornaments or a candle and you have the perfect jazzed up DIY creation of your own!  Simple elegance, takes less than 10 minutes to make!

Have any projects like this that you have made?  Make sure to comment and post a link to your own blog!

I'll close up today's post with what I am thankful for of the past days I missed:

Saturday Nov 3rd
"Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms." Psalms 95:2

I am thankful for the surprise visit from 3 special cousins that we don't get to see as often.  Thankful to see them happy and doing well, even though we miss them so much.

Sunday Nov 4th
"O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endureth forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34

I am ever so thankful for my babies, even though they are not babies any longer.  They amaze me every day how much they have grown, how much knowledge they have, and how much they teach me.

Monday Nov 5th
"Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known His deeds among the people." 1 Chronicles 16:8

I am thankful for both of my parents, for always being there for me, no matter how old I am.  For all the valuable things they have taught me, for their support and always believing in me and encouraging me.  I just wish I could to spend more time with them both.

What are you thankful for today?

Until next time...

100 Days of Holidays-Holiday Bucket List-53 Days & Counting

"Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, amongst the heathen and I will sing praises unto thy name." 2 Samuel 22:50

Today I am thankful for my wonderful, loving husband of 13 years (15 years together).  He supports my craft obsession, my dreams and goals to have my own business.  He also puts up with the monstrous mood swings, short temper, high strung, OCD, panic attacks, on the go and all out crazy wife and mom that I am.  I love him so very much and I don't think he realizes just how thankful I am for him.  I love you baby!

OK, today I started my very first "bucket list".  Essentially a list of "to do's" that are more like "want" to do's.  Things I want to do every holiday season and do not always get accomplished.  So I made a list this year and I am plan on sticking to it.  We'll see how it goes.  Here's what I have so far:

  1. Buy the Elf on the Shelf & Book, find unique places for it all season.
  2. Have all shopping done by December 1st.
  3. Make/Sell 10 Christmas outfits
  4. Go to McAdenville to see the Christmas lights.
  5. Finally WALK through McAdenville instead of just drive thru it.
  6. Make a gingerbread house with the kids.
  7. Read 1 Christmas book with the kids every night.
  8. Watch as many Christmas shows and movies as possible.
  9. Have Christmas Photos made early.
  10. Get Christmas cards mailed by 2nd week December.
  11. Go see Christmas House in Kings Mountain more than once.
  12. Find new places to see Christmas lights.
  13. Have a Christmas get-together.
  14. Add 1 thing to outdoor decorations.
  15. Finish painting bedroom.
  16. Get fish tank to bedroom before setting up Christmas decorations.
  17. Have shopping list ready by Black Friday.
  18. Do all Black Friday shopping online.
  19. Bake with the kids to make gifts for the neighbors.
  20. Donate coats to a women/men's shelter.
  21. Have at least 6 dresses made to try and sell at consignment shop.
  22. Have a booth at a craft fair.
  23. Put away sewing machine by December 8th.
  24. Make something for my son to wear this year.
I'm sure I'll be adding to this before it's over with!  I will post an update after Thanksgiving to let you know how things are going.

Will you be doing a bucket list this year?  I would love to see what you would plan for your list!!

Until next time...
G'nite!

100 Days of Holiday Inspiration-Be Thankful-54 Days & Counting

What happened here?  I just started this series last week didn't I?  Wow, what happened to October!?!

Today is November the 1st and I have a challenge for all of you: Be Thankful.
Name one thing every day you are thankful for.  Put it on your Facebook page, "Pin" it, Blog it or put up a poster board on your kitchen wall and write the things you are thankful for there.  Have everyone in your family join in by sharing what they are thankful for as well.  Truly this is something we should do every day of the year, but at least in the days leading up to Thanksgiving-before we get sucked in to that vacuum cleaner of holiday shopping-just be thankful.

My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by Hurricane Sandy's wrath on the East Coast.  Here in North Carolina we just got heavy wind for several days, so I know we were very fortunate.  For those affected please know that we are all praying for you.

"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever."  Psalm 107:1

Today I am most thankful for a gracious, loving and forgiving God, and for sending his son to live and die for me, and for you.  No matter how bad things get, I know that He is there and watching over me.  He will never put more on me than He knows I can handle.  I am thankful to know Him and be saved by Him.

What are you thankful for today?

Until next time...
