Ultimate Blog Party 2012

This week for my Pinterest Copycat I wanted to make our own magnetic board to display my daughter's artwork.  I found the idea on Pinterest a while back and have been in search of a Dollar Store cookie sheet ever since.  Any other time I would have found one immediately, but they've been scarce lately.  Finally we found one and couldn't wait to get started.

What you need:

  1. Metal cookie sheet
  2. Paint
  3. Sealer (optional)
  4. Magnets
  5. Picture frame hook
  6. Paint brush (not required if using spray paint)
  7. Magnets
  8. Hot glue gun (optional)
  9. E6000 or another strong glue

We used acrylic paint on our board, but you can use spray paint as well.  I don't feel like I have enough control with spray paint and it tends to run, so I use my trusty bottle paints instead.

With the acrylic paint, I did 3 coats, letting it dry completely between each coat to insure accurate coverage.  Once it was dry, I took it outside and sprayed Aleene's Spray Acrylic Sealer with a Gloss Finish over it.

While I was in between coats of paint and sealer, I gave my daughter a handful of clothes pins to paint any way she wanted.  I took the clothes pins a part so she wouldn't paint over the metal spring.

Next I took some magnets we had on hand and hot glued them to the back of the clothespins.  I also took some bottle caps and buttons we had and made some decorative magnets for her as well.

Finally for the mounting hardware.  I took a picture frame hook and tried to hot glue it to the back. FAIL.  As soon as it had set and I tried to pick it up, it fell right off.  I took out my trusty tube of E6000 glue and that did the trick.  It takes a little longer to dry but is completely worth it for its strength.

Now we're all set!  My daughter loved it and loved that she got to help.  Now she has a special place to hang her most recent artwork for everyone to see.

I hope you found my version of this helpful! I'm joining in Project Pinterest with Sandee over at: in the hills of North Carolina.  If you have a Pinterest version of you own, please stop by Sandee's blog and share your link!  It's so much fun to see what everyone creates!

Check back for this week's Stash Bash which will include another Pinterest Copycat version.

What are your most inspiring Pinterest ideas so far?
